The fifth ordinary conference of the Mauritanian Journalists Union held a vote Saturday to elect new leadership, with over 1,700 journalists participating at the old conference hall in Nouakchott. However, the 'Salvation List' slate and allied professional groups boycotted the election, citing serious legal and procedural violations, and announced plans to challenge the legitimacy of the conference and any resulting bodies.
